One Steam account, four ways to write it
Every Steam account has a single number behind it, the account ID. Games, plugins and websites just write it in different ways:
| Format | Example | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| SteamID64 | 76561197960287930 |
Steam profile links, Rust commands, most plugins and APIs |
| SteamID (steam2) | STEAM_0:0:11101 |
Older games and plugins, some logs and ban lists |
| SteamID3 | [U:1:22202] |
The Steam client, Source games, some server consoles |
| Account ID | 22202 |
Inside all of the above |
The conversion is simple arithmetic, which is why this tool works instantly and never calls Steam:
- SteamID64 = 76561197960265728 + account ID
- steam2 =
STEAM_0:Y:Z, where Y is the account ID modulo 2 and Z is the account ID divided by 2 - SteamID3 =
[U:1:account ID]
STEAM_1: and STEAM_0: point to the same account: some games print a 1, most print a 0. This tool accepts both.
Which one does Rust use?
Rust works with the SteamID64 everywhere. You need it to:
- give a role:
ownerid 76561197960287930 "name" "reason"ormoderatorid …, - ban a player who is offline:
banid 76561197960287930 "name" "reason", - add a player to an Oxide or Carbon group:
oxide.usergroup add 76561197960287930 viporc.usergroup add …, - find a player in the
statuslist of the server console.
If a plugin, a ban list or a player report gives you a STEAM_0 or a [U:1:…] id, convert it here before you type a command.
How to find a SteamID64
- From a profile link: a link like
steamcommunity.com/profiles/7656119…already contains it; paste the link above. - Your own account: the Account details page of your Steam account shows your Steam ID.
- A custom profile link (
steamcommunity.com/id/name): only Steam can turn the name into an id. Open the profile in Steam, or ask the player for the link of their profile. - On your Rust server: the
statuscommand of the server console lists every connected player with their SteamID64.
Stop copying SteamIDs by hand
With Servycore, every player who joins your Rust server gets a profile: SteamID, Steam names, sessions, playtime, reports and bans, across all your servers. Bans, roles and VIP groups are given from the profile in one click, with the right SteamID every time, and a network ban stops the player before they even load in.
Questions people ask
What is a SteamID64?
The 17-digit number that identifies a Steam account, starting with 7656119. It is the format Rust, Steam profile links and most plugins use. Paste any other format above to get it.
Is STEAM_0 the same as STEAM_1?
Yes. The first digit is the "universe" as printed by the game: some games show STEAM_1:, most show STEAM_0:. Both point to the same account and convert to the same SteamID64.
Can this tool convert a custom profile URL?
No. A link like steamcommunity.com/id/name contains a name chosen by the player, and only Steam can tell which account it belongs to. Open the profile in Steam or ask the player for their profile link.
Which SteamID do I use to make someone admin on Rust?
The SteamID64: ownerid <steamid64> "<name>" "<reason>" from the server console or RCON, then server.writecfg so the role is saved. The admin guide walks through it.
Is my input sent anywhere?
The conversion happens on our server with plain arithmetic: nothing is looked up on Steam and nothing is stored.
